who?Converse All Stars Toastmasters Club at ING was chartered in March 1969 and has been meeting ever since. The club is open to all ING employees and all community members.

what?

Toastmasters is a weekly meeting of people who are interested in improving their communication skills. At the meetings, toastmasters learn communication skills by speaking, listening, and leading.

Toastmasters learn from each other and from the Toastmaster manuals each member is given. We do not pretend to be professional speakers, but rather “speakers in training” who know how to have fun learning these skills. Each meeting is highlighted by two or three prepared speeches. Another member evaluates each speech in a constructive and helpful manner in order to improve the delivery, grammar, voice fluctuations and overall poise of the speaker.

why?Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Toastmasters can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you are—to become better communicators.

how?At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club is made up of 20 to 30 people who meet once a week for about an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
